My thoughts on how to find the perfect contractor or builder for your project

Posted on: August 1, 2019

I know that many of you are planning on remodeling and building in the future and I’m often asked how to find/identify a good contractor or builder for your project. ⁣

⁣You may be surprised by my answer, but I would always recommend to look on Instagram. More and more builders turn to Instagram to showcase their craft and you want to work with someone who genuinely enjoys what they do and wants to proudly share their work with others. ⁣

Not all contractors and builders are the same and Instagram (and especially IG stories) is the best way to get to know more about the contractor/builder you’re considering hiring for your project. There is nothing better than a referral from family or friends, but if you don’t know anyone who can recommend a good contractor/builder, I would recommend googling local builders in your area and then looking them up on Instagram and seeing what they’re all about. Start following them and watch their stories - you’ll see their projects, their process, their attention to detail, and even their personality. If they’re excited and proud to often share their work on social media - then that is a very strong indicator that they love what they do, take pride in their work, and care about craftsmanship.⁣

I met my architect because of Instagram, found my land clearing contractor on Google but made the decision to hire him after checking out his Instagram page, my foundation contractor was recommended by one of my followers. I plan on continuing to rely on your recommendations for great framers, plumbers, electricians and carpenters in addition to working with the teams I’ve been working with in the past on my own investment properties and my clients’ projects. If you are a contractor working in central NJ, please feel free to reach out - I’d love to work with you.

Instagram isn’t only great for discovering products - I can’t tell you how many times I heard of people finding doctors, lawyers, real estate agents, and of course builders, architects and designers on this mighty platform. Instagram is a tremendous resource (and it’s free) so make sure to take advantage of everything it has to offer.
